It is always a good idea to have an emergency Microsoft Windows 7 or Vista boot CD-ROM or DVD on hand. These Windows 7 and Vista boot disks, also known as system-repair discs, allow you to use the system recovery options on bootup. Recovery options allow you to perform operations such as "Startup Repair" and "System Restore." These tools can repair boot-up and other system problems you may be experiencing.
- Click on the "Start Menu," and select "Run." In the "Run" dialogue box that pops up, type "recdisc.exe" to start up the "Create a System Repair Disc" utility.
- Select your CD or DVD burner from the drop-down box to indicate your CD or DVD-ROM drive and click "Create Disc."
- Put your Windows 7 or Vista installation disc into the drive you selected and click "Continue." The utility will use the installation disc to create portions of the "System Repair Disc."
- Wait for the System Repair Disc utility to finish reading the Windows 7 or Vista installation disc, then replace the installation disc with your blank CD or DVD ROM when prompted and click "OK."
- Click "Close" once the disc is done burning. Be sure to label the disc as "Windows System Recovery Disc" and keep it in a safe and easily accessible place for use in case of a system crash.
