Google Mobile iPhone App updated

Google has redesigned its iPhone app on Wednesday bringing with it new features and a new look.
“If you need to do a Google search on your iPhone or iPod touch it's now faster and easier when you use our redesigned Google Search app, formerly Google Mobile App,” says Google in a blog post on the news of the new app hitting the iTunes store.

The new version, which is available for iPhone and iPad, introduces a new swipe down and swipe right approach that reveals either settings and an apps button, or further areas of search like images or news at the touch of a button.

“When browsing through search results or looking at a webpage, you can swipe down to see the search bar or change your settings. For those who use other Google apps, there’s an Apps button at the bottom of the screen for rapid access to the mobile versions of our products,” says the search engine clearly trying to now keep you within the app rather than send you off to Apple’s own browser.

In fact you’ll be able to surf the web for ages without the need to come out of the app, although it’s worth pointing out that it’s not as fully featured as Safari.

Other features include the ability to easily set the settings of the app, and as before the ability to edit your apps list to only show the apps that are relevant to you.
